COVID-19 BE DAMNED

Americana Highways presents live music series online

As the world adjusts to social distancing, shelter-in-place and flattening the curve during the COVID-19 crisis, musicians have taken to social media for streams of performances to fill the void of canceled/postponed shows and tours.

Among those efforts is “Live Music From the Quarantine,” a performance series presented by Americana Highways that is streaming on Facebook Live. And like many things that have happened as a reaction to COVID-19, it came together in a flash.

“This idea was born last Friday evening [March 13],” says Melissa Clarke, the managing editor at Americana Highways. “It was really co-formed at the very same instant everything began to close down all around us.”

Within 24 hours of reaching out to artists, Clarke had the first week booked. And within three days, she had filled a month’s worth of performances, with four acts per night, six days per week, each one performing for 30 minutes.

Clarke will be on hand during the live streams to help plug the artists’ PayPal/Venmo and other sites.
